Rehearsal from 6:00 to 8:30.

Wednesday 9/1
Rehearsal from 6:00 to 8:30 with Run Through at 8:10.

Thursday 9/2
Football Game at West Chester Henderson HS
  • Location: B. Reed Henderson High School North Athletic Complex, West Chester, PA 19380
  • Report to KHS: 4:30
  • Depart for Henderson at 4:45
  • Arrive at Henderson at 5:45/6:00
  • Unload and cheer for KHS Football!
  • Depart Henderson at approximately 9:30
  • Return to KHS at approximately 10:15.

  • Uniform is the NEW SHOW SHIRT.
  • We should be finished around 9:30/10:00, possibly earlier.

Due to COVID Delta our parent preview is canceled this year. You are welcome to come out at 7:45 for our first run of Part 3 and the COMPLETE 2021 SHOW!!!

Thursday 8/26
The same group, plus a few other people, will be playing in a Pep Band for Back to School Night.  Details are still being worked out.

Friday 8/27
8:00 to 2:00 Final rehearsal at Kennett Middle School
2:00 to 4:00 LOAD OUT
5:30pm Report to Kennett HIGH SCHOOL for HOME FOOTBALL GAME.  Uniform is BLUE SHOW SHIRT.

Due to inclement weather, our evening rehearsal tonight (8/18) is CANCELLED.
Camp will resume at 8 am Thursday morning.

Monday August 16 Schedule

8:00 AM
  • Meet at the trailer in the KMS parking lot (please try to be early)
  • Attendance, general information, field trip forms, dues, etc. (please see the email from a few days ago)

Morning Block (8:00 to 12:00)
  • Hornline: Sectionals (basics, music learning, etc.) Main Field (soccer field #1)
  • Color Guard: Sectionals with Ava and Jen (continue to learn work) Field 2 (soccer field #2)
  • Drumline: Sectionals (music learning and moving basics) optional Field 3 (field hockey field)
  • Front Ensemble: Sectionals with Miss. Barrett and Peter.  We will find a shaded part of campus.

Afternoon Block (1:00 to 4:00)
  • Hornline: Drill on Main Field with Mr. Whisler, Miss. Kraynie, and AJ.
  • Color Guard: Drill on Field 2 with Jen.
  • Drumline: More music and moving basics on Field 3.
  • Front Ensemble: Music (individual practice time and section time with Mrs. Barrett) and housekeeping (clean and organize the trailer)

Evening Block (6:00 to 8:00)
  • Hornline/Front Ensemble/Guard: Parking Lot Ensemble Music (guard will be reviewing all of work up to Set 11D with the horn line)
  • Weapons: with Natalie learning work.
  • Drumline: Music and Drill up to 11D on Field 2 or Ensemble Music in the Parking Lot.

HYDRATE STARTING NOW!!! Drink lots of water starting today and please eat a solid breakfast before coming to camp on Monday.

CAMP COVID PROTOCOL

8/14/2021

 
In accordance with the new KCSD guidelines, all staff and students, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask while inside of Kennett Middle School.

Drumline, Guard, and Pit can rehearse inside as long as all parties are masked and maintaining 3 feet of social distancing. Any activity outside will be mask at your own discretion. Please be sure to bring a mask for the first day of camp. We will follow up with Mrs. Shannon, the nurse at Kennett Middle School, to see if KMS has extra masks.

In the event that we need to program inside breaks for the woodwind and brass students, a room will be assigned to each section for AC breaks. The woodwinds will be assigned to F109 and the brass will be assigned the library classroom. The marching band members are only permitted to use the restrooms in the F Wing and are NOT permitted to leave the F-Wing without permission.

All meal breaks will either be off campus or outside. It is highly recommended that members go home from 4pm to 6pm for dinner each day.

If you are experience COVID symptoms, please contact Mr. Whisler and remain at home until you have a negative COVID test. COVID tests are available by appointment at Kennett Middle School. We took care of business last season during COVID and we will do it again this season. Wash your hands, wear a mask, etc. etc. etc.

BAND CAMP BEGINS MONDAY 8/13

Thursday, 8/12 6:00pm-8:00pm (tomorrow):

Rehearsal and Load Out at Kennett High School.  If you are in the area please attend.  If you are on vacation, out of town, or otherwise busy, don’t worry about it.  WE NEED AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. If you are in the area and you play a woodwind, brass, or drumline instrument please attend the rehearsal.  We will be playing through the show music and preparing for the move to Kennett Middle School. If you are in the pit you will need to attend this rehearsal to prepare for camp, clean the trailer, and load everything we are going to need at Kennett Middle School. Guard, you do not need to attend this rehearsal!  Side note: THE GUARD IS ALREADY FINISHED WITH PART 1.  YAY!!!  If you want to come to KHS and help pack and load, by all means.

BAND CAMP: WEEK 1
Where: Kennett Middle School (195 Sunny Dell Road, Landenberg PA)
When: August 16th to 20th

Day 1: Report Time 8:00am (get lots of sleep on Sunday).  We will all be gathering by the marching band trailer in the parking lot.

REQUIRED MATERIALS
  • Before reporting to camp you must complete an Electronic Field Trip (Medical) Form: English Spanish
  • Dues: See message at the bottom from Mr. Romano
  • Equipment (flag, instrument, reeds, valve oil, sticks, etc.)
  • Water Jug.  Not just a plastic 16oz water bottle, please bring something insulated and no less than 64oz.  You will be spending a ton of time outside in direct sunlight.  We will not be providing water.  Kennett Middle School has a filtered refill station outside of F103.  Larger bottle = fewer trips.
  • Food:  You will need to bring lunch for the first day of camp and it is recommended that everyone leave for dinner.
    • Lunch: 12:00 to 1:00 daily (unless otherwise noted)
    • Dinner: 4:00 to 6:00 (unless otherwise noted) Unfortunately due to COVID, we cannot distribute meals.
    • Due to COVID Delta, sharing food is highly discouraged. 
  • Please print your music in advance, if you do not have your music on Day 1, a copy will be provided for you.
  • SUNSCREEN, Hat and Sunglasses: this is not the week to work on your tan.  Please be smart and dress appropriately.
  • School Appropriate Attire.  It’s hot, please be sure to dress appropriately.
  • Masks.  If you enter KMS you will be required to wear a mask.
  • OPTIONAL: If your family has an old pop-up canopy available for camp we would greatly appreciate the additional shade.  I cannot guarantee the return condition, weather at Kennett Middle School is unpredictable.
  • Rehearsal length will ultimately be determined by the Caption Heads, please try to be as flexible as possible.  Morning Block is from 8:00 to 12:00, Afternoon Block is from 1:00 to 4:00, and Evening Block is from 6:00 to 8:00.  Please prepare to be available for all three blocks.

Day 3 @ KMS:
Our first Ensemble Rehearsal will be during the evening block from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  If you are not a performer and would like to check out what we have been up to, you are welcome to swing by.  Please maintain a safe distance from the performers.  You will NOT be permitted to enter Kennett Middle School, there is a portable facility at the field.  Our first run of “to what we know” will be around 7:40pm with pick-up/departure at 8:00.

Day 4 and 5 @ KMS:
Report Time: TBD by Caption Head
Ensemble Rehearsal: TBD by Mr. Whisler

A detailed email about Band Camp Week 2 will be sent on Tuesday August 17th.

General Week 2 Outline:
  • Mon-Wed Rehearsal is from 4:00 to 8:00, bring a bagged dinner.  Break will be determined by Caption Head (no longer than 45 minutes).  We will not be doing our Annual Parent BBQ and Preview on Wednesday, August 25th due to COVID Delta.
  • Thursday is Back-to-School Night at Kennett High School.  I will need students to play in a Pep Band.  I will not need the entire band, I only need a couple people from each section.
  • Friday is our first Football Game.  We will have sectional rehearsals from 8:00 to 12:00, Show Day Rehearsal from 1:00 to 2:30 (pit will be packing the trailer).  Load Out for Kennett High School from 2:30 to 3:30.  The staff will move the equipment from KMS to KHS for the Football Game.  Report time for the game will be 5:30 with our first performance at 6:40pm.  The game should be over around 10pm.

DUES INFO:

These dues covers many items that students will require that are of a nature best not to share.  For instance, this will cover 2 member shirts, shoes for new members, gloves and body suits for the guard, as well as paying for uniforms to be cleaned at the end of the season.  In some years, we have also been able to provide a meal if we have multiple performances on the same night.  I feel it is important to state these funds go into a student account maintained by the FoM treasurer.  These funds DO NOT go into a general account.  Unlike some of the surrounding programs, we do not use these funds to pay staff, buy equipment, pay for transportation, etc.  This money is only used for an individual's personal expenses in relation to the band.  

IF THIS MEMBERSHIP FEE IS A FINANCIAL CHALLENGE, PLEASE DISCRETELY TALK TO ME OR ANY OF THE STAFF.  THIS FEE SHOULD NOT STOP YOU FROM BEING IN THE BAND.  ​I can sometimes work some small magic when needed.  

Ok, how much and who to pay.  I have received a few early dues payments and I will make sure they get to the right person if they came to me.  For everyone else:

New members $125
Returning members with <$50 would pay $100
Returning members with $50-$100 balance would pay $50
Anyone with >$100 doesn't pay this year
If you are a returning member, Mr. Winterling can likely inform you of your student account balance.  

To pay your dues, you can do one of the following.
  • Check made out to KHS Friends of Music, either collected at camp or it can be sent to Mike Winterling, 216 Buttonwood Rd, Landenberg, PA 19350
  • Paypal, to KHS Friends of Music, Inc
