Cavalcade is a bit different than US Bands
If you would like to see the criteria, I have linked each caption and the sheet that the judge uses to the score our performance.
Judges Sheets (click this link to a Google Drive folder)
The US Bands feedback was removed because these are two completely different circuits so scoring will be different.
Each caption has two numbers, a Composition/Program/Vocabulary/Repertoire and a Execution/Performance number. The first number reflects on how well I selected this show for you, the performers. Earlier in the season, this number will be low, because the judges are still trying to determine what we are displaying. At this point in the season, the first number should be above 80. Field Music, Ensemble Music, and Percussion all had this number over 80. The rest of the program is seen as either too challenging for the performers or doesn't make sense ("The Saloon").
Ensemble Visual
Composition: Does the forms transition well? Are the color guard staged well? Are the visuals appropriate for the show? Are we moving well?
Execution: Did the color guard spin together? Did the forms lock and transition correctly? Are your feet in time? Did the visuals lineup and use the same interpretation? How are your horn angles? How do you physically look, at ensemble level, moving?
Field Music
Composition: Is the music selected challenging enough or too challenging for the students? Is it well composed?
Execution: Are the articulations lining up? Phrasing and dynamics at an INDIVIDUAL level. Part accuracy at AN INDIVIDUAL level. Tone quality, at an individual level.
Ensemble Music
Composition: Is the music selection challenging enough or too challenging for the ensemble? Is it well composed?
Execution: Are the articulations lining up in the press box? Are we balanced front to back and left to right? How well do we control phrasing and dynamics?
Overall Effect (OE) Visual
Repertoire: Does the show make sense visually? Does the drill and visuals match the sound of the music? Does the costuming, props, silks, etc. compliment the show theme?
Performance: Did the color guard performance match the sounds being created by the musicians? Does the character work read well enough from the press box? Does the judge see what they hear?
Overall Effect (OE) Music
Repertoire: Does the show make sense musically? Does the music line up with the drill and color guard work? Does the music display both fast and technical elements as well as slow and expressive elements? Does the music compliment the ability of the ensemble (over written/too hard or under written/too easy)?
Performance: Did the musicians line up with the color guard work (flags go up, sound gets louder/flags move fast, music moves fast/etc.)? How well did the ensemble perform front to back?

I waited to post this until after US Bands Championship because these are two different circuits, with different criteria. The feedback from this show will be very helpful going into Finals this weekend.
